- String is best run when receiving a pull, so the setup can vary dramatically. A handler, 6, starts with the disc in the middle third of the field’s width. A reset handler, 7, stays behind the disc. The cutters form a “string”; i.e. an ordered chain, with 1 cutting first, 2 second, and so on. Their precise placement in the stack is irrelevant, so long as they can avoid being picked.
- Begin with cutter isolated.
- 1 cuts. See related drill: https://www.flikulti.com/drills/up-under/
- Scenario 1 - If 1 cuts away, 6 throws to 1. See related drill: https://www.flikulti.com/drills/diagonal-away-throw-to-straight-cut/
- Scenario 2 - 1 cuts under, 2 cuts away.
- Scenario 2a - 6 throws away to 2. See related drill: https://www.flikulti.com/drills/cross-field-away-throw-front-side/
- Scenario 2b - 1 gets the disc under. 2 cuts away. Cutters 3, 4 and 5 all move downfield to maintain distance between the disc and the stack. They should aim to move as fast as the disc is advancing, so as soon as the disc is thrown they should all push downfield. See related drill: https://www.flikulti.com/drills/positioning-vertical-stack-as-disc-moves-downfield/
- 2 turns under. 3 cuts away. This is the key part of the offence, as 1 has two viable options at once; away to 3, or under to 2. Repeat this process from Step 8, rotating through the cutters, until unable to throw to either receiver, at which point reset the disc.
