Positioning Vertical Stack as Disc Moves Downfield
Positioning Vertical Stack as Disc Moves Downfield: A handler, 1, starts with the disc in the middle of the width of the field. All remaining players start…
- Initial setup. A handler, 1, starts with the disc in the middle of the width of the field. All remaining players start in a stack, with the front player, 7, no further than 8m from the disc, and the stack angled directly down the middle of the width of the field. The back player in the stack, 2, should be no more than 12m from 1.
- 2 cuts away.
- 2 turns underneath, and 1 throws them the disc. As soon as the disc is released, 3 begins to cut away while the rest of the stack (4, 5, 6 & 7) all push downfield, aiming to maintain good spacing between the disc and the front of the stack. This ensures that both sides of the field can be used. See related drill: https://www.flikulti.com/drills/away-to-open-under/
- 3 cuts away hard; this is a viable option in a game but for the purposes of this drill we will not throw to away cuts as the objective is to focus on correct stack positioning. 1 runs away from their throw, aiming to rejoin the stack later.
- 2 catches the disc. 3 turns under. 1 rejoins the stack as it moves downfield. See related drill: https://www.flikulti.com/drills/away-to-open-under/
- 2 throws under to 3. As soon as the disc moves, the stack pushes downfield. See related drill: https://www.flikulti.com/drills/away-to-open-under/
- The process continues; 2 flares away from the disc & 4 cuts away.
