- Initial setup. A handler, 1, starts near the centre of the field marked by D1. A cutter, 2, starts 10m downfield, and 10m closer to the sideline. 2 is guarded by D2, who stands around 5m further towards the open side, poaching off 2.
- B cuts directly at their defender, D2. This forces D2 to either stand still – which allows 2 to run straight past – or must back pedal and turn their hips in order to be able to run forwards. At this point, 2 tries to either get behind D2, or cuts into the space that D2 gives up.
- Scenario 1 - If D2 stands still B cuts straight past D2. This throw should go as soon as 1 knows that 2 will get open; i.e. it can happen before 2 is beyond D2, so long as 2 has sufficient momentum.
