Setting a Sideline Trap
Setting a Sideline Trap: Players 1, 2 and 3 set up as three handlers. D1, D2 and D3 form the chase and tips of a containment zone.
- Initial setup. Players 1, 2 and 3 set up as three handlers. D1, D2 and D3 form the chase and tips of a containment zone.
- Offence 1, 2 and 3 swing the disc between them all the way to both sidelines.
- When the disc reaches the sideline the nearest tip (D3) and chase (D2) move quickly to cut off any continuation up the line.
- D1 closes in to put the force on, preventing the immeditate return swing while doing so. The aim of the defence is to prevent a throw down the sideline.
- 1, 2 and 3 continue work to get the disc off the sideline, and aim to swing the full width of the pitch. Offence is free to do whatever they like to move the disc. In this example, 3 throws a dump pass to 2 who swings to 1.
- As the disc moves off the sideline defenders resume their positions, but rather than going directly there, they transition through a line across the pitch preventing any offensive gain up the centre of the pitch.
- Having stopped the immeditate threat through the centre, D2 can now close in on the force, and the defenders resume their arrowhead position.
- The defenders reset the line trap every time the disc reaches the sideline. In this case, for example, 3 has received the disc on the sideline so the nearest defenders, D1 and D2 move to cut off the line, and D3 closes in on the force. Allow the drill to run for a couple of minutes before switching O and D and resetting.
